Walkabout Friday: My New Friday Hangout

Two Fridays in a row, now. The laundromat dude will think I'm sweet on him.
After a few weeks of acting bratty, our washer was diagnosed this morning with faulty suspension rods. The parts have been ordered and will arrive and be installed next week, but meanwhile, I'm chillin here. I'm guessing we have at least one more laundromat visit ahead of us. Thank goodness for laundromats, am I right?

The good news is that our dishwasher's only problem was a clogged drain tube. Yay!

Appliances, man, I tell ya.

Later: After kicking butt all week, I decided to treat myself to sushi. Aw yeah.
I'm so happy right now.

Holy heck, I ate a butt-ton of sushi. I've never spent that much before! Oops! Boston rolls are divine, and expensive, but so worth it. Usually I stick with the cheaper plates, but I'm glad I tried them.

Picked up B from work, then Hubby from the MAX, and then I was just plain pooped. This week was epic. I went to bed around 6:30 pm.

"Everyone makes mistakes....not like yours, though"

(Spoken by the ghost of coworkers past)

The bookstore was closed for yearly inventory today (as opposed to quarterly, textbook-only inventory, which I helped with last year). And MAN what a treat! It wasn't that bad, actually. I helped sort the clothing department first, then sorted pens and office supplies.

Then, Blind Onion pizza arrived and we enjoyed lunch together. Yay!

Came home, watered, did stuff, ate food, went to sleep. I survived this week. I did it. I'm quite proud.

Mrs, Manager, Day 3: That Was Long

I'm super tired.

R is going north to visit Hannah for a few days - Hannah's birthday is tomorrow. R and Hubby came by the bookstore so we could hug it out before she left. She's taking the train, something she's become quite the expert at since she started college.

The rest of the day was fine, just long as heck. But I'll definitely take it.

Mrs. Manager, Day Two: Mr. DeMille, I'm Ready For My Rubber Room

Nothing has gone terribly wrong; mostly it's been a nice, chill day. One coworker-who-must-not-be-named has been more frustrating and annoying than usual, but what are you gonna do? Gripe and get fired? (I usually wait until after I'm fired to gripe to the boss.* "I'M FIRED??? Well you suck!!")

At least we haven't had any stalker sightings, YET. And the weather is glorious:
And my lunch is pretty great. Overall, I quite like this gig.

*This is only partly true. I was only fired once, but I did take the opportunity to finally talk back to the boss, who was a hag.

Mrs. Manager, Day One: The Stalker

We just say "manager"

Dan is on vacation this week, and guess who gets to be in charge while he's gone. Dan always does a great job of preparing us underlings for new situations, so I wasn't nervous about it. But of course, life is never without its wrinkles.

LONG DETAILED STORY OF WHY WORK WAS WEIRD TODAY

TL, DR: I threw a young man out of the bookstore. He kept showing up in new disguises.

This morning, out of the clear blue, a coworker about R's age (we'll call her Sue, how do you do) somehow developed a stalker. A boy about her age brought in a 9 week old puppy, and let Sue hold it for a couple of minutes. The puppy was adorable but the kid was obviously all about chatting with Sue - asking her name, flirting with her, that kind of thing. Sue is a cute girl and has dealt with his type before, so she wasn't too creeped out by it. He left with the dog, but reappeared multiple times, always making a new excuse for having to come back into the bookstore.

The fourth time he came in, I (having just heard about this policy from another coworker) let the boy know that dogs aren't allowed on campus unless they're service animals. I thought I spoke to him kindly enough, but he rolled his eyes, grabbed the stuff he'd set down on the counter, and left in a huff.

He then changed clothes (what) and came back without the puppy, wearing glasses and a baseball cap, like he was a completely different person. He handed an expensive men's watch to Sue, said "You lost this," and when Sue said, "No, that's not mine," he insisted that it was hers and left it there on the counter. (I later heard from B that the boy had asked B to hand the watch to Sue for him, and B refused.)

Another employee who had just bought a snack offered to take it to Lost and Found, which is B's department. B looked up the watch online, and it's worth over $2000.

By this time, we're all getting a little wigged out. We get that Sue is attractive, but what was with the hovering, and the changing of clothes? Who leaves an expensive watch for a bookstore employee they've just met? It seemed planned - like who shows up with a puppy and uses it to try to get with the cashier?

Meanwhile, the boy went out, changed clothes a second time (Outfit #3, for those who are keeping track), and didn't come back into the bookstore but hovered inside the building, either using the computer in the main hall or walking around, taking pictures with his phone, and peering into the bookstore to see if Sue was still behind the cashier counter. We planned to have a security guard walk Sue to her car when her shift was over, but Sue's boyfriend came to the bookstore and ended up doing that instead.

All this time, Heidi was searching the security camera footage and found a couple of screenshots to send to the security department.

Ultimately the kid left, and we're hoping not to see him again - but as B pointed out, if he's a student, we will. We'll see how many changes of clothes he brings with him next time.

Work ended smoothly with minimal hand-wringing. I decided to bus myself home. Nice sunny day.
Life is weird, but good, friends.

Going Home

We woke up HOT with the sun beating down on the tent. (Next time we camp there, I'm putting the tent in the shade.) Tawnee and Kiley made a lovely breakfast. We ate, packed, hugged everyone goodbye and took off for Richland.

While preparing for this trip, I had been thinking about driving the kids through Tri-Cities to show them where my family had lived, and today ended up being the perfect day for it. I showed them our homes in Richland and Kennewick, my friends' old homes, the Seminary building, middle school and high schools, and of course the old church building that was the setting for so many of my teenage memories. The weather was perfect and Kennewick in particular seemed so peaceful and idyllic. Maybe my glasses are getting more rose-colored over the years, but growing up there really was a great experience for me. I'm grateful.

We drove back to the Couve, kind of squished and miserable in that car (BLEAH) and definitely tired and ready to be home. I took a ginormous nap. Hubby and R came home later and we all had a great evening.

PARTY in Benton City

Here we are at BC & Tawnee's house! We left around 9:30 AM and arrived in time for lunch, and spent the rest of the day eating and playing. So much fun!

Friendy Friday

It's been a big busy day. We picked up our rental car, and I drove it home and picked up B for work. Hubby and R are staffing this weekend's soccer tournament.

Here I am laundering sleeping bags for tomorrow's trip. They were a bit smelly when we used them at Mount Rainier... I guess being trapped in the garage all winter will do that.

Next: Goodwill for Left-Right game prizes
Look at this Chewbacca mug. LOOK AT IT
Lunch at Killer Burger with Sandy

More running back and forth between Hubby, B, and R, more errands, wrapping of gifts, and dinner with my lovely Heidi:
we had a great time and didn't get in trouble for talking too much

Seriously, at one point during dinner, I looked across the table and was so delighted to realize that we could talk AS LONG AS WE WANTED, and no one was hovering nearby to eavesdrop or interrupt or clear her throat at us. We could just talk! Simply amazing. We had such a great time!

Summer Solstice 2023

Went to work. Ate a burrito from Smuchas Gracias (parked on the street by the church so I could eat lunch in peace). Tried to nap. Vacuumed. Laundry. Shrink appointment - cried a lot. More laundry and decluttering in the garage. Looking forward to Jeopardy!, dinner, a bath, and bed. It was another blue day. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I should plan something.

Bluesday

Woke up feeling a bit cruddy but thought, work always cheers me up (right? How crazy, yet nice, is that?).

But THEN I arrive at work, and... According to the human resources department, I didn't work here anymore.

It was weird because last Thursday, I started receiving emails from the college about "fixing my problem", which were then unopenable because I no longer had access to my email account! Then we had the long weekend, and then today, when I arrived at work but had no access to my computer, IT was finally contacted and everything was fixed.

Also, my sweet little Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday schedule is no more. Apparently in my job classification, I can't have a set schedule, so my shifts will get a bit more varied.

All that to say it's been a weird and kind of unpleasant morning at work, so I cheered myself up (somewhat) by taking pics.
(I hadn't seen this one before today and it made me happy)

My favorite coworker and me

So, you know, life is good. Everything is fine. Hiccups are inevitable.

This email excerpt helped greatly:

Did nothing but play Sims and plan a trip with some friends. Not a thing. It was great.

Father's Day 2023

Brunch: French toast, bacon, scrambled eggs, fruit, juice, coffee (we should have taken a "before" pic)

All five kids were here. Color me thrilled! We ate, chatted, took pictures, and Hubby opened gifts.

DOGS AND CATS, LIVIN TOGETHER

...mass hysteria!

The Ladies did a great job of sleeping in the tent all night last night. They came inside a bit cold and tired, but had fun.

A few weeks ago, Hubby asked R, Hannah, and roommate K if they would play on his team for a scrimmage this morning. I decided to tag along with them, but forgot to bring a chair, so I'm listening to the countdown (it's a good one!) in the car and checking on them every so often. It's an interesting weather day.

Later: The sun came out! And H and A stopped by!
After these shenanigans, we had creamy Italian chicken (Crock-Pot) and pasta and watched TV while the kids did their stuff. What a great day.
