Day Off

Bella and Harrison already had the day off, and I was wildly disinterested in getting Carter and Rosalind ready for school. They were only too willing to stay home.  So I let them.  I know, I'm a terrible mother.  I've made my peace with it.

Bella, who had found her way to my bed, reacted to this news by saying I was being unfair because she always had to go to school when Brennan had the day off.  I teased her, "Be sure and take this personally, since it's all about you" and she said, "It IS all about me!"  She continued to lie in my bed and watch TV, then suddenly grabbed my arm and did her "harf" chewing thing on it.  She told me I have a "bitey arm" and then got up, grabbed the netbook and escaped to her room.

I showered and dressed, then spent part of the morning practicing the piano part for "Salute to Big Bands", and teaching Carter the rest of "Silent Night" and how to read music - Every Good Boy Does Fine, F-A-C-E, etc.

Arriving at work, I was met at the door by one of our regular customers and made a sale before I had time to set up the till.  Afterward I made milk chocolate and regular chocolate fudge in the kettle, and pans of dark raspberry, maple bacon, and Caramellow fudge.  It was a normal, uneventful day.

At home, Carter and Rozzie came out to greet me, all dressed for the warm (?) weather.  The sun was shining and the sky was bright blue, and I think we made it past 50 degrees.  Carter was shirtless and wearing shorts, about the palest thing I've ever seen, and Roz wore a t-shirt and her little tan capris.  So cute and happy to see Mom.  Harrison got in the car and I took him to his last free day of the club, which he's really been enjoying, and then I went to the grocery store.

Carter begged me to let Tyson come over and spend the night; his mom agreed to a late play date, and she dropped him off a while later.  I had a rest, picked Harrison up, then came home and roused everyone into picking up the living areas before Daddy came home.  Once Hubby was home, we ordered pizza, picked it up, brought it home and watched it disappear (we helped).  Bella made a date with her friend MK to go see "The Hunger Games" and Hubby took her over to MK's house.

Brennan had a hard day yesterday, I think - not because of anything bad happening, but his medication is wearing on him.  While Hubby was gone, Brennan told me he felt completely unmotivated to do anything and I tried to reassure him that he was doing fine, that he was still getting used to the medication and that he was doing OK and we didn't expect him to do anything right now while he was feeling this way.  I feel helpless in situations like these, but we do what we can to buoy him up and keep his stress levels down.  We spent a few minutes looking at our collection of garden seeds and he seemed enthusiastic to get a garden going.  I think it would help him.

After Hubby took Tyson home, we went out on a quick dessert date to @pplebee's, which turned into an appetizers-and-dessert date.  We had a fun time, listening to a couple of idiots' drunken laughter and enjoying a nearby couple's baby girl.  I really don't like @pplebee's and the close proximity to the bar is just one reason, but their desserts are good, dang it.

We came home and I collapsed into bed, anticipating a yuck night's sleep after eating way too much.  Poor Hubby had to stay up to pick up Bella from seeing the movie.
