Heading Home

Tis a fine Idaho morn

Morning: I'm packing up to go home, and I am so glad I stayed to spend as much time with Neenaw's belongings as possible. I always loved coming to her home and seeing her things, the old familiar furniture and knickknacks that she's had around since before I was born. I will miss that little piece of Earth that she occupied. Going through her things with Aunt K, and getting them ready for distribution to my siblings, cousins, and me, has been a healing experience and I'm grateful.

Noon: N's last road trip
(she's in Uncle J's truck, behind the silver tarp)

The Deviled Egg Celebration

Morning: We decided last night that Hubby would go home without me today, so I could stay a few more days and help Aunt K with clearing out N's room. She was most grateful for the help. While Hubby napped (it's a long drive home, especially when alone), I grabbed some Sbux and drove to Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. It's a beautiful place.

The main event: Uncle J and Aunt K headed to church, and Brother B and the cousins came over. I don't know what we were sitting around talking about, but suddenly Brother B said, "I like deviled eggs." We talked about our tried and true deviled egg recipes and decided we needed a taste-off - so we rounded up some eggs, hard boiled them, and it was ON.

Here are Cousins S (lady), B, and S (gentleman).

Our finished products:

Cousin D's
Cousin S (gentleman)'s
And mine:
Then everyone made their way around the kitchen island, trying our deviled eggs. It was fun. I love that we just jumped up and did it.

Later: After the cousins went home, I started working in N's bedroom, sorting her belongings for distribution to the family. She always stored her things in interesting places, and her bedroom is like a weird and disorganized museum that I get the privilege of sorting through. It's like a treasure hunt. I loved doing it whenever I visited her, but we usually ended up looking at her old photos and labeling them instead - something I'm grateful we did together.

We all miss her so much.

N's Funeral

Dinner afterward was the old favorite, ham and funeral potatoes.

As hard as it was to say goodbye to our beloved grandmother, we still enjoyed reminiscing about her and being together. I love our wonderful family.

When Psychos Travel

We're so excited

Heading south east to Caldwell today. Tomorrow is Neenaw's funeral.

Stop #1: Arlington, OR - traded drivers
Stop #2: Pendleton, OR - ate lunch at R0oster's. SO GOOD with homemade chicken noodle soup that tastes like my mom's! Hubby loved the taco salad!
mmmmm

Tired and Ready to Go Home

Getting our last Vegas Sbux, till next time. Yeah, we're wiped out.

Typical Vegas behavior - taking off the price tags
and
We see through you, Vegas. It's a good thing you're cute.

ON THE PLANE
WE GOT SEATS TOGETHER
Words can't convey the giddiness

We landed safely. Unfortunately, when we were able to turn our phones on after landing, we received the sad but expected news that my grandmother, N, passed away this evening. Again, it was expected, but of course I'm heartbroken.
